What to expect
Not every Sunday is exactly the same but our celebrations often follow a similar pattern … the FAQ’s below will give you a good idea of what to expect!
Is there a dress code?
We want you to feel relaxed when you join us so there is no dress code. Suited and booted or jeans and a t-shirt … simply come as smart or as casual as is comfortable for you.
What can I expect when I arrive?
We start at 10:30am though tea, coffee and brioche etc. is available from 10:15am. You can also expect a really warm welcome and if you need assistance someone will be there to help out. Please feel free to sit anywhere you like.
How formal are your celebrations?
Part of our vision is to build a community to which people can belong rather than just put on meetings they attend. Our celebrations are therefore fairly informal and relaxed throughout. Each celebration starts with about 20 to 25mins of open worship.
We love to express our praise and thanks to God and celebrate all that Jesus has done for us. This is mainly in the form of singing contemporary worship songs alongside occasional classic hymns (the words to the songs are projected on to a screen at the front). We also encourage one another by providing space during this time for anyone involved in the church who would like to, to read out passages from the Bible, speak out short prayers, or share things that they believe God may be saying to us. During this time everyone is free to sit or stand, observe or participate as much or as little as they like.
Thereafter, we usually have a short time of sharing news.
Will there be a collection?
We see giving something back to God from what he has already given us as very much a part of our worship. For this reason, we usually provide an opportunity for anyone who would like to, to give at some point during our celebration. No one is under any obligation to give, and the last thing we want is for anyone to feel that they have to give.
What about the Bible?
We really value spending time getting to grips with God’s word in a way that is relevant to our lives today. This means that most Sundays there will be a talk from the Bible usually lasting about 30mins. You can listen to some of our most recent talks here
We also like to create space to pray – often this will be for what we believe God has called us to or for anyone present who would like prayer in response to what we believe God may be saying to us.
When does your celebration wrap up?
We aim to finish around midday, but because we believe that God has adopted us into his family, the church, we love to spend time catching up with each other. Tea and coffee etc. is therefore also available at the end of our celebration. Anyone is welcome to stay for this, but should you need to go that’s fine too!
What about families?
We love families and have a number of children and young people who regularly come along to our celebrations. There are activities most Sundays during the talk for primary school aged children. We also have a parent and toddler area stocked with toys and don’t mind babies and toddlers making lots of noise during our times of worship, prayer or sharing together.
Is there space for parking?
Yes! There is ample space for parking at Burnham Park Hall. The access to the car park is just off Windsor Lane.
Are all of your Sunday celebrations the same?
There is no hard and fast agenda. This means that some Sundays we may spend less time singing and more time in prayer and on other Sundays give more time to sharing together as we look to God to fulfil the promises we believe He has given us.
